    Default Is it legal............................................. ....??

Couldn't find an answer to this question. Starting Oct. 2nd, is it legal on WMA to hunt squirrels with a .22 cal rifle while at the same time carry a high powered pistol for deer. Noting that the individual has a big game license, WMA permit and doe tags.

    Weapons
3.1 – On WMA lands hunters may use any shotgun,
rifle, bow and arrow, crossbow or hand
gun except specific weapons may be prohibited
on certain hunts. Small game hunters may possess
or use shotguns with shot no larger than
No. 2 or .22 or smaller rimfire rifles/handguns
or primitive muzzle-loading rifles of .40 caliber
or smaller. Small game hunters may not possess
or use buckshot, slugs or shot larger than No.
    2. Blow guns, dart guns, drugged arrows or
arrows with exploding tips are not permitted.
Small game hunters using archery equipment
must use small game tips on the arrows (judo
    points, bludgeon points, etc.).
3.2 – For Special Primitive Weapons

3.3 – On WMA lands, big game hunters are
not allowed to use armory-piercing, tracer, incendiary,
or full metal bullets or .22 or smaller
rimfire. Shotguns with only buckshot or slugs
are allowed. Buckshot is prohibited during
still gun hunts for deer on WMA lands in
    Game Zones 3‑4.

The rules make it impossible to hunt Big and Small game at the same time on WMA, since you can not possess the weapons for both Big and Small game at the same time. ( Hog hunting during Small game seasons has it's own rules. )

CWP is legal on WMA all the time, but you can NOT use your CWP weapon for hunting Deer while small game hunting with any small game legal weapon.

What's the difference between a non-resident annual big game permit ($100) vs annual state hunting license ($125) ? So, big game hunters (high powered rifles) can't legally carry a .22 cal. pistol ?

The annual state hunting license is only good for hunting Small Game & Game Birds. You have to have BOTH the Big Game Permit and the state hunting license, if you want to hunt Deer, Turkey & Bear.

No. Big game hunters are not allowed to carry 22 or smaller rimfire ( pistol or rifle ) while hunting big game, on WMA lands. Carrying a CWP pistol in 22 rimfire would be legal, BUT, it would be illegal to use it for shooting any game animals. CWP is for self defense only. Small Game hunters can hunt with a 22 or smaller rimfire pistol, but can not carry a centerfire pistol except for CWP which can not be use to shoot game animals.
