Default RE:What Calibers Do You Deer Hunt With Besides The Most Popular One's?

What are some calibers you deer hunt with besides the usual ones, 30/30, 30-06, .243, .270, etc?

Interested in those shooting the lever action rifles.

I switched from 30-06 and now hunt with two Brownings. One being the A bolt in 7mm-08 and BLR Gold Medallion in .308.

I use a Browning a bolt in .270 wsm when I hunt power lines. A little more punch that your standard calibers.

For deer I basically stick with the 30 calibers, specifically .308 and .300 WSM. Over the years I have often used a .270. I have flirted with the idea of deer hunting with my .220 Swift, but haven't done so, yet. I've also killed several deer with both a .357 magnum and a .44 magnum revolver and a full sized Springfield XD in .45. Of course when running dogs it's always been a .12 gauge with buckshot.

surprised I didn't see one of my favorites?? -- I have & hunt with Rem.700, & BAR in ""25-06 cal."" -- killed several with both rifles __ I love my Browning BLR 308 but has more recoil than the 308 BAR** ___ I have yet to take my 270WSM or ( 7mm 08 Browning BLR Lever ) ,maybe next season ?? but I always drift back to my BAR 270.with the older Japan made Nikon scope - ( very light recoil, and that scope let's me see um' hit tha' dirt )

I use Rem700's in 308 and 300 Win Mag. Since I reload my own bullets, I make them fit my situation. Pushing a 168gr Berger Classic Hunter at 3260 MV out of the 300. Surprisingly, it does no more meat damage than the 308 the majority of the time, but they drop like they were hit in the head with Thor's hammer--9 out of 10 times. I shoot 165gr Speer SBT's in the 308. That bullet does a very good job out to 300 yards from my rifle.

Here’s one I use that I bet nobody else in the state does. A 30-40 Krag.

My father got an original .303 British still packed in grease, shortened it and modified it, and has killed a lot of deer with it.

Bought a new 7mm-08 but had a scope problem so had to go back to the 270 till I can get a good sight in on the scope. Not sure what happened there but I lost two nice bucks with it. One lost wounded, one missed clean, checked scope and it was way off. Don’t know what happened there but I will figure it out.

All I have is a 1895S .45-70...only used it twice for deer in certain situations and didn't score.

I loaded some rounds up for a rifle in .357 for a buddy and he took one with it first trip...can't remember the make of his rifle.

I wouldn't mind having one in .44 Mag to match my pistol.

one of my .270s is kinda a lever gun..Browning High Wall

30-40 Krag here Banjo Bud. It's my dad's rifle and has had the barrel cut down and still has the flat silver butt plate on her. She's a very unique and mean looking rifle in my opinion.
I honestly haven't carried it in about five years since pretty much switching to bow hunting but occasionally she will accompany me deer hunting when in Seneca visiting with my parents.

I'm hung up on a .308 the last few years but have a .280 Rem 700BDL, the whole glossy ride, that I plan to use next year.

    Depends on where I'm hunting.
Tika 7 Mag for power line or open fields. Long shots possible.
Howa .243 woods or close shots.
