Pulled out the old grey hawk this afternoon. Hadnt shot it but a few times since i bought it last year. 90gr pyrodex with 395gr great plains bullet. 50yds offhand. Might actually make that mountain muzzleloader hunt ive been wanting to do. Planned on buying a cva optima but as good as this shoots i might not need one

I have a 50 cal T/C New Englander I bought many years ago when we had to use sidelocks with no scopes.It about the same gun as yours but it is blued/walnut.It was the first quality muzzleloader I ever used and I killed a boatload of deer,and some of the biggest deer with it.

I'd rather be using the 209 primer over using a weapon using a # 11 cap. CVA my choice. imo

I run musket caps/nipples on my T/C Hawken. Far more reliable than a #11 cap.

mine has never had a problem. I did buy an encore barrel last week. Just gotta find a frame. Never shot an inline.
