some of these shops keep much of your meat when they grind it up to make sausage and the likes to sell to others, so I've heard...

I was real disappointed and won't return
I can say that Big Buck Born in Yahannah has never given me back what I thought was a light order when I gave them an entire deer.

But the only real way to know is give them deboned venison. Have them weigh it in front of you and order what you want done to it.

??? Any processors in McBee area???
Im new to hunting around there.
    YetteHunter,

The Skinning Pole just north of Chesterfield is one of the best processors I have ever used. You get your money's worth and every pack of meat is as clean and wrapped as if you had done it yourself (tin foil and freezer wrap).

Go north on Hwy 145 out of Chesterfield for about 2 - 3 miles and when you come up to a fork in the road with a gas station in the fork, take the left fork on Hwy 742 and go about 1 mile. There is a pasture on the right with a barn that sits back up in the pasture with a single wide trailer to the left of the barn. The Skinning Pole is located in the barn. Freddie Gaskins is the owner and just tell them that I sent you. They'll know what you mean! LOL

I have three deer up there from the Refuge hunt last week that I will need to pick up this week.

One thing though, they only take the deer if it is whole and with the skin on it. They will take it if field dressed but it has to have the hide on it or they'll turn you away (or bury it for you!) but they won't process it if there is any grass or sticks on the meat so be careful to take it to them whole if possible. They'll treat you right too.

Rock House Road in Greenwood is good, don't hunt down that way anymore but I used to use them only.
Northwest in Hodges is nice but super expensive and I never get back my whole deer....
I use Prices in Anderson $55 Basic process is awesome, always get my deer back.
Harpers Meats in Anderson is also good.

    Default Question about processing?

A little bit off topic, but I was wondering...When my son and I finally bag the first deer, do most processors expect them to be field dressed, or can we take it "whole"? Thanks in advance... Newbies here!

Here are two very good processors.

    Rock House Road Processing
    715 Rock House Road
    Greenwood, SC 29646
    864-227-2032
    www.rockhouseroadprocessing.com/

Best smoked meats such as summer sausage, snack sticks, jerky, etc you will find.
Also they make breakfast sausage, kielbasa, and bacon.
Very clean, basic cuts are reasonable, smoked products can get pricy but they are the best you will find.

    Another is:
    Northwest Meat Center
    2320 Dixie Dr.
    Hodges, SC 29653
    864-374-3571
For basic deer processing they are great, very clean and vacuum pack everything. Very reasonable.
They butcher hogs, deer, beef cattle as well. Great place.
I will keep my gun and my bible. You can keep the CHANGE!

A little late but hey. I have never field dressed one. I always take it to them whole. The small fee that most put on for skinning and gutting is well worth the cost in my opinion.

Hickory Hills in Van Wyck is awesome! Love the sausage with cheese & jalapenos.

Nichols Store in Rock Hill, not so much. Dad got back 25 lbs of meat from a 118 lb doe last year.
